Walther Thread on ALPB Online Forum

Walther discussion ALPB Online Forum

I joined the ALPB Online Forum some months ago. Someone started writing about Walther, so I joined to say a few things.

The UOJ crowd worships Walther, so the rebuttals are fun to read.

Outsiders have some interesting comments too.

Re: What Do We Know About C.F.W. Walther?

Thanks everyone for proving why there will never be an objective biography of Walther. His camp-followers would never allow it.

Then it is your mission to write such an objective biography.  Be sure to well document your conclusions.  Asserting historical facts without documenting them, and asserting conclusions without building a documented case for them is not good biography.

Seriously, I question whether this is an effective forum for you to accomplish what seems to be your purpose, to convince all those who have a positive regard for C.F.W., especially those in the church he helped to found, to come to see him as a detestable man, a crook, and to repudiate him and to repudiate all that he taught as rotten fruit from a rotten tree.

But to accomplish that, it is not enough simply to assert your version of the events, and your interpretation of the events and of the man.  Your version of the events must be documented, and the case built that you have the proper interpretation of the events.  Also a picture needs to drawn of the times and other personalities involved, especially that of Martin Stephan.  It is not enough to say that Martin was a fallible but good man much wronged by a malignant Carl.  You need to demonstrate why your conclusion is the best one.

The short posts and give and take of discussion forum hardly gives the room or the time for consideration to build and present such a case.  It needs at least an article, likely several or a book length presentation.  Especially since you are not the only one to have commented on these events and persons.  A part of a convincing presentation would need at least a look toward why your take on all this is better than those you reject.

You have your work cut out for you.

Universal Objective Justification is that rotten fruit from a corrupt tree.

Missouri and WELS constantly denounce ELCA for its bad theology and dreadful practice while working with ELCA on a wide variety of religious projects. WELS does this in stealth mode while Missouri does it openly. Hypocrisy is an overworked word, so I can only call it duplicity.

When we count up the 54 million babies killed in America, we must give credit to WELS and Missouri in union with ELCA, with WELS/LCMS Mark Jeske heading up the effort via his Thrivent Insurance board leadership.
